Construction of the HighStep Rail

HighStep is a modular system that can be adapted to many different requirements for mounting on a very wide range of structures. The Rail system always consists of the standardised part and a part required for the specific solution. The two figures illustrate the standardised part of the overall system. Aluminium Rails, rail connection profiles, spring brackets and end stops can be seen. The system components, together with additional components, are made up into sets to make it easy to configure a standard HighStep System. The components are blind rivets, rail connection pins, hand protection covers, washers and T-head bolts. Each set is always required for the installation of a Rail system, and the number of sets required depends solely on the height of the structure.

Set HighStep Rail

The extruded aluminium Rail, as shown in figure 1, is the system carrier, the central element of the system. A Rail segment is 6 metres long, weighs 20 kg, and has an open U-shaped profile. The Rail is anodised, and the anodising also determines the colour. The standard HighStep colour is nickel silver, but all the colours shown in figure 4 can be supplied. The Rail is also maintenance-free, and suitable for use under severe environmental conditions. It has a very high strength that initially appears over-dimensioned for a climbing system, but this strength makes it suitable for many future applications. There is a guide rib on the front (figure 2), which gives the Rail orientation. When mounting the Rails, ensure that this rib is always on the right-hand side, otherwise the HighStep Protector fall protection device will not run along the system. The set has includes 4 rail connection pins, as shown in figure 5, which are used to linearise the entire Rail line. They are inserted into the tubular holes on the Rail profile, as shown in figure 8 in the "Rail Holding Point Set" chapter. A Rail can be shortened to achieve any desired access height provided that the sawing guide shown in figure 3 is followed.
